Pohaku ahu `aikupele kapili o Keaweiki

| At the summit of Pu`u o Moa`ulaiki is a site thought to be a heiau for navigation. It is at this summit that early navigators could get a comprehensive view of neighboring Lana`i, Moloka`i and Maui as well as the currents running through the island channels. This site was also well suited to study the winds and the stars. The stone slab at this peak is referred to in Harry Mitchell's chant as Pohaku ahu `aikupele kapili o Keaweiki or "Stone of deep magic of Keaweiki." This stone slab has also been called Bell rock in recent times since when pounded in the right spot it gives off a distinctively low resonance tone. |
